January 2026 Feature Release: Trim, Restore, Enhanced Export, and More
We're excited to announce our January 2026 feature release—a collection of powerful new tools that make Indexia even more capable for professional book indexing.
This release focuses on workflow efficiency and professional publishing integration. Whether you're trimming an index to size, recovering deleted work, or exporting for InDesign, these features streamline your path from AI extraction to finished index.
What's New
1. AI-Powered Trim
Intelligently reduce your index to the perfect size.
Large AI extractions are valuable—they ensure you don't miss important terms. But professional indexes need curation. Our new Trim feature uses AI to identify which terms to cut:
- Set your target term count
- Review AI-ranked suggestions for removal
- Keep full control over what stays and what goes
- Trim iteratively for best results
The AI considers mention frequency, relationship density, semantic importance, and more to suggest cuts that preserve your index's quality.
2. Restore Deleted Terms
Never lose your work again.
Every deleted term is now preserved in your project's deletion history. Made a mistake? Need to bring back something you cut during trimming?
- View all deleted terms with full context
- See when and why each term was removed
- Restore with a single click
- Recover relationships where possible
When adding new terms, Indexia even checks if you've previously deleted a matching entry and offers to restore it instead.
3. Index vs. Concordance Mode
Choose between curated references and comprehensive coverage.
Indexia's AI finds every relevant mention of a term. But not every mention belongs in a professional index. Now you can switch between two viewing modes:
- Index Mode: Curated, professional-quality page references
- Concordance Mode: Every AI-detected mention for comprehensive review
Toggle between modes to understand the full scope of a term's presence, then ensure your curated references include the most significant pages.

@1,@2,@3, etc.) - Per-element typography controls

5. Preamble Handling
Correct pagination for books with roman numeral front matter.
Many books use roman numerals for front matter (i, ii, iii...) before switching to arabic numerals for main content (1, 2, 3...). Indexia now handles this automatically:
- Specify your preamble page range during project creation
- Terms from front matter display with roman numeral references
- Main content uses standard arabic numerals
- Exports maintain correct notation throughout
No more manual conversion or pagination headaches.
